Ocean Engineering Workshop with Prof. Carl Martin Larsen (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and Prof. Jun Sasaki (Yokohama National University)

On Tuesday, November 3, 2009, Ocean Engineering Workshop with Prof. Carl Martin Larsen (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and Prof. Jun Sasaki (Yokohama National University) was held on East Campus Centre Auditorium – Institut Teknologi Bandung. This workshop was organized as a PHKI program under the Department of Ocean Engineering, Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, ITB.

This workshop was attended about 100 students and faculty members of Department of Ocean Engineering, FCEE-ITB.

The topic of ”Slender Marine Structures – Key features and Methods for Design Analysis” and ”Engineering Strategy for Managing Water Quality” were chosen related to the challenge of offshore structure construction in deep sea and marine pollution protection in the future.

During opening remarks, Manager of Ocean Engineering Graduate Program (Irsan Soemantri Brodjonegoro, Ph.D) hopes that research collaboration between Department of Ocean Engineering and the academicians and also foreign well-known universities can be established in the future and this workshop will mark the beginning of this collaboration.

The Workshop session was devided into 2 sections with the speakers of Prof. Carl Martin Larsen (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) with the topic of ”Slender Marine Structures – Key features and Methods for Design Analysis” that discussed regarding the design and analysis of slender marine structures dan Prof. Jun Sasaki (Yokohama National University) with the topic of ”Engineering Strategy for Managing Water Quality” that dealt with the reduction of hypoxia and anoxia in dredged trenches and engineering measures against this problem are considered on the basis of development of engineering tools, including enhanced monitoring and numerical prediction methods.
